Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

If you do not have health insurance or are not seeking to use it for these services, you have the right to a written Good Faith Estimate of expected health care charges.

You can request an estimate before scheduling. When you schedule at least three business days ahead, an estimate must be provided within the applicable federal timeframe. Ask any provider involved in your care for an estimate of its charges.

If a provider's bill is at least $400 more than its estimate, you may qualify to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Keep a copy of your estimate.
